Elizabeth jackets and pants in woven indigo threads
The day Linda discovered Skif we imagined this .....
From the thread to the final garment, these blouses are created by women cooperatives in Guatemala. The fabric is Guatemalan cotton colored with natural dyes to create the rich indigo. It is dyed and woven by Mayan women living in San Juan de Laguna. The El Salitre Women and Childen’s Center outside of Guatemala City then purchases the fabric and sews these amazing Skif designs. The Center was developed four years ago to support women in poverty living in the El Salitre slum. Here women learn a skill that allows them to provide for their children. Eighty percent of the women are single parents with little education and the Center has allowed them to feed their children and keep them in school.
